While the exact copywriting process will vary between projects, the process is generally as follows:
Client meeting/brief:This stage involves getting to know your requirements in terms of: project aims, key marketing messages to be communicated, preferred copywriting styles, existing copy which may be adapted and other resources which may be utilised during the writing process. Consideration is also given to how copy will relate to other elements of the project in terms of design and the medium being used.
Project plan:The brief is followed by the preparation of a project plan, which outlines the copywriting requirements. This normally consists of a list of headings, a description of the copy to be produced in point form, and a list of additional information required from the client if relevant.
First draft:Production begins with a first draft of the copywriting, for client approval. This may involve interviewing the client further on specific issues as required.
Refinement:The copy is refined, according to client requirements and feedback. The content is presented with the design and development concepts in production for client viewing. Prior to finalisation of a brand story or any copywriting project, all copy is proof-read carefully.
